Van Patten Woods/Sterling Lake

I promise that blue sky clues are coming soon! If you can’t wait for clues, know that Milkweeds are already at Fort Sheridan and Daniel Wright Woods. I am heading out to Rollins and Sun Lake today! One of the Van Patten milkweeds has already found a new home. JOY! It happened to be hangingContinue reading “Van Patten Woods/Sterling Lake”

Pine Dunes

There was a lovely, red-winged serenade accompanying us on our entire hike this day!

Grant Woods North

There is clearly a lot of work that is going into the restoration of this space. The floor is a short green carpet that I know won’t last for long. The recent burns have a special scent when mixed with a spring rain. It did not go unappreciated. On my first visit to this northernContinue reading “Grant Woods North”

Lakewood

The Millennium east, 1 mile loop, and the Fort Hill Trail, loop trail are best accessed from the winter sport parking area. This was my first time on the Fort Hill Trail. I was surprised it’s asphalt. Will add it to a cycling route later in the season!

McDonald Woods

I intentionally sought out some new locations for McDonald plantings. I was successful for two out of the three! I love how this preserve changes through the seasons.

Raven Glen

Nothing but blue skies today, not even wind! A favorite spot got quite a new look. I still left a milkweed to hang out for awhile.

2024 Begins at Nippersink

I called it! I said earlier this year, when we were already having 60+ degree days, that it was going to snow during spring break. Odin and I missed our snowy winter hikes, so I’m absolutely okay with this. The pink is really standing out in contrast to today! Super excited to start this adventureContinue reading “2024 Begins at Nippersink”

Lakewood and Millennium Trail

Lakewood was the first Lake County forest preserve I ever visited. I remember my first hike was on a hot and humid day in 1985, when pretty much everything was taller than me. #25 is on a trail aptly named 1mile loop off of the Millennium Trail, East It’s accessible from the main lots orContinue reading “Lakewood and Millennium Trail”
