Joy and Chippiness
I did not save the best for last. There was one milkweed where I did not do my best work with wax resist and the detail on the leaf design was lost. NO JOY! Oh, but it got worse. My favorite art store stopped carrying my favorite glaze. The new glaze they’re carrying has been…
Half Day
A brief but spectacular jaunt in Half Day today was both grassy and slightly muddy.
Raven Glen, Fort Sheridan, and Rollins
Rain, rain, is staying away! Wrapping up a week of daily doses of outdoors has been truly a blessing. My HOPE is that a few others have enjoyed this motivation with me.
Old School
#mondaymotivation Old School is a great location to walk on a windy day. The exercise trail (pink trail) is perfectly packed under tree cover.
Lakewood
WHAT A SAPPHIRE MORNING! I hope the sumac made friends with my milkweed today. They are pretty. Would sumac have a friendly personality if it made an appearance for Alice in Wonderland?
Nippersink 2025
Seeds of HOPE have officially planted and the sun helped feed the feeling. May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face…
Grant Woods South
There are only six more Milkweeds to be planted since the dogs broke a couple in their chaos today. Even though they’ve been planted for a few days, I think these three are too hard to find without these clues. Happy walking and picking!
Rollins Savanna
If it weren’t for Rollins Savanna and the opportunity to volunteer at the native seed nursery there, I don’t know that this project would be happening. Game Changer!
Sun Lake
Happy to be able to keep posting some sunshine during these April showers and such. Hoping that at least the weekend will work out with some walking days!
Daniel Wright Woods
Red, Yellow, Blue. XXVIII and XXIX were playing for team Yellow, but were benched within the first mile. XXX gets to hang out on a bridge over my favorite muddied water.
Van Patten Woods/Sterling Lake
I promise that blue sky clues are coming soon! If you can’t wait for clues, know that Milkweeds are already at Fort Sheridan and Daniel Wright Woods. I am heading out to Rollins and Sun Lake today! One of the Van Patten milkweeds has already found a new home. JOY! It happened to be hanging…
Pine Dunes
There was a lovely, red-winged serenade accompanying us on our entire hike this day!
Grant Woods North
There is clearly a lot of work that is going into the restoration of this space. The floor is a short green carpet that I know won’t last for long. The recent burns have a special scent when mixed with a spring rain. It did not go unappreciated. On my first visit to this northern…
Lakewood
The Millennium east, 1 mile loop, and the Fort Hill Trail, loop trail are best accessed from the winter sport parking area. This was my first time on the Fort Hill Trail. I was surprised it’s asphalt. Will add it to a cycling route later in the season!
McDonald Woods
I intentionally sought out some new locations for McDonald plantings. I was successful for two out of the three! I love how this preserve changes through the seasons.
Raven Glen
Nothing but blue skies today, not even wind! A favorite spot got quite a new look. I still left a milkweed to hang out for awhile.
2024 Begins at Nippersink
I called it! I said earlier this year, when we were already having 60+ degree days, that it was going to snow during spring break. Odin and I missed our snowy winter hikes, so I’m absolutely okay with this. The pink is really standing out in contrast to today! Super excited to start this adventure…
Lakewood and Millennium Trail
Lakewood was the first Lake County forest preserve I ever visited. I remember my first hike was on a hot and humid day in 1985, when pretty much everything was taller than me. #25 is on a trail aptly named 1mile loop off of the Millennium Trail, East It’s accessible from the main lots or…
Old School
Pink on Pink. These milkweeds are getting a workout in on Old School’s pink, exercise trail!
Rollins Savanna
There’s no place like home. While this project has allowed me to fall in love all of the Lake County Forest Preserves, I think Rollins will always feel like home, where it all started.
Raven Glen
The milkweeds at Raven Glen do not have a paper crane friend to hang out with this year, but they do have a rock art neighbor. I think this place feels loved.
Lyons Woods
Lyons Wood makes me feel like there’s a touch of magic in the air. It has a uniqueness that separates it just a little from our other preserves.
Sterling Lake at Van Patten Woods
These milkweeds have great albeit rocky views of water, a great place to relax!
Pine Dunes
Contrary to its name, Pine Dunes features few pines but it does have beautiful views of water features!
Independence Grove
I started working with kiln burnout designs in a glaze called “stormy blue” which seems appropriate for this spring.
Raven Glen
It was exciting to find out that I was not the only one hiding art at Raven Glen!
Rollins Savanna
The Discovery Trail is a great place to be on. a sunny spring day! Thank you for registering your findings.
Ray Lake
Unlike in previous years, I am not hanging milkweeds, but am still using trees and manmade landmarks for hiding. It’s more like an Easter egg hunt!
